They are living separately at this point. Have not found where Alvin McKinney is at this point, he is likely off to the war some where. Likely no one remains living on the land. Still looking for Simpson's grave site.

1900 US Census Transcription - Green jr. & Simpson

Shows next door is Simpson also but the spelling is messed up. Look for Sinep or something for a transcript? I believe this widowed Greene is Green McKinney jr. based on the age and some where it said he is living with his sister Nancy, go find that one again. And the fact there is a Green listed as the son of Simpson, so that one is more likely Asa Green.

Green McKinney spelled with the "e" in McKinney
Following are the names of the parties assessed, 1854, Monroe Co, AL Real Estate Tax

Assessor's book (LG543, Alabama State Archives)
McKINNEY, G.W.
McKINNEY, Green

I am going to say the land grant which is dated 1854 was made to these two people, a father
and a son. Names are Green W. McKinney, oldest son, and Green McKinney, the father and
that is what the tax record was on.
-------------------------
SUMMARY OF OUR RESEARCH TODAY SHOWS - working backwards  and forwards we looked for

1930, 1920, 1910, 1900, 1890, 1880, 1870, 1860, 1850, 1840, 1830, 1820, 1810, 1800.

The GREEN MCKINNEY Family we now know from the 1850 Census was made up of 3 girls
and 2 boys. Oldest son being Green W. McKinney and the youngest son being Simpson
McKinney, who would by 1880 have a son age 4 named Asa Green McKinney that we know
would go on to become Elmer McKinney's father and Alvin McKinney's father and also Ron McKinney's Grandfather.

Georgia became a state in 1776 and at that time it looks like some of it reached over toward the
Mississippi river. Start of Counties in Alabama was not until 1814-1818. They were clearing
out all the Indians and Monroe County was est. 1815 with a secession from the Creek Indians
in 1814.

We need to look for other records to show Green McKinney, born 1782, for 1800 age 18, 1810 age 28, and 1820 age 38. We believe he likely married around 1810 at about age 28 and taking a wife about age 17.

To put the time period  that Green McKinney lived into some context see notes below. Green McKinney was born around 1782 in Virginia.

Thomas Jefferson (April 13 [O.S. April 2] 1743 – July 4, 1826) was an American Founding Father, the principal author of the Declaration of Independence (1776), and the third President of the United States (1801–1809). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Jefferson

James Madison, Jr. (March 16, 1751 – June 28, 1836) was an American statesman, political theorist, and the fourth President of the United States (1809–17). He is hailed as the "Father of the Constitution" for being instrumental in the drafting of the U.S. Constitution and as the key champion and author of the Bill of Rights.[2] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Madison

Matilda4 McKinney. She married Joel Fore January 17, 1838 in Monroe Co, AL153.
Possible family of Joel and Matilda, but sadly Matilda is missing in 1850, leaving Joel and the 4 children.
Later we see a Frances at age 14 showing up living with Agnes (Agath) in 1860.

Elizabeth McKinney, born Abt. 1819 in South Carolina154; died Bef. 1860 in Monroe Co, AL. She married Daniel T. Sermon (Simmon) February 04, 1847 in Monroe Co, AL; born Abt. 1811 in Alabama155,156.

Possible family of Elizabeth. Looks like the name is really Simmon and they live next door to Green McKinney. Check the original document.http://greenmckinney.blogspot.com/p/blog-page_87.html

Mary E. McKinney, born Abt. 1826 in Alabama. She married Daniel T. Sermon (Simmon) March 11, 1860 in Monroe Co, AL; born Abt. 1811 in Alabama157,158. Looks possibly like Mary married her brother-in-law in 1860 after her sister Elizabeth had died. They lived next door.

Green W. McKinney, born Abt. 1824 in Alabama. He married Rebecca Sanders February 21, 1849 in Monroe Co, AL. He becomes a widow, and Rebecca is not showing up in 1850. He later shows up living with his sister Nancy.

Elmira McKinney, born Abt. 1811 in Alabama. She married Duncan McKenzie, Sr. November 21, 1855 in Monroe Co, AL. I think this is him. She married late so probably no children. Spelling could be wrong in transcript. He lived not far from the McKinney land.

Assessment of Taxes on Real Estate,
Monroe County, Alabama 1854

Green McKinney spelled with the "e" in McKinney
Following are the names of the parties assessed, 1854, Monroe Co, AL Real Estate Tax

Assessor's book (LG543, Alabama State Archives)
McKINNEY, G.W.
McKINNEY, Green

I am going to say the land grant which is dated 1854 was made to these two people, a father
and a son. Names are Green W. McKinney, oldest son, and Green McKinney, the father and
that is what the tax record was on.

Apparently it looks like the land grant that was done in 1854 was for 2 pieces of property totaling 500 acres, or 250 each. Put Link to that picture of the doc. we have framed. See if we can get a copy of the one given to Butch as well.

Also note at least some of this land was passed down to through Simpson McKinney to Asa McKinney and then to Elmer and Alvin McKinney sr. It was mortgaged at some point to pay for Elmer's college education. Lumber was clear cut from the land at some point. When Alvin sr. past, Butch McKinney or Alvin jr. was given a portion from his father and Ron McKinney was given a portion from his Uncle Elmer and his wife Myrtle McKinney, who never had any children.

1860 CENSUS

By 1860 Census Monroe, ALa, Green McKinney the father, who would be age 78 appears to
be past on or somewhere else so he is not there. 1860 shows Agatha (Agnes) McKinney, the mother, Nancy, Green, Simpson, and a younger girl named Francis (likely a granddaughter, the daughter of Matilda & Joel Fore) about 14. The ages seem messed up.

The Civil War date was 1861 - 1865

So not much real Census data is found yet for 1870.
