I am going to say the land grant which is dated 1854 was made to these two people, a father
and a son. Names are Green W. McKinney, oldest son, and Green McKinney, the father and
that is what the tax record was on.

SUMMARY OF OUR RESEARCH TODAY SHOWS - working backwards and forwards we looked for
1930, 1920, 1910, 1900, 1890, 1880, 1870, 1860, 1850, 1840, 1830, 1820, 1810, 1800.
The GREEN MCKINNEY Family we now know from the 1850 Census was made up of 3 girls
and 2 boys. Oldest son being Green W. McKinney and the youngest son being Simpson
McKinney, who would by 1880 have a son age 4 named Asa Green McKinney that we know
would go on to become Elmer McKinney's father and Alvin McKinney's father and also Ron McKinney's Grandfather.
Georgia became a state in 1776 and at that time it looks like some of it reached over toward the
Mississippi river. Start of Counties in Alabama was not until 1814-1818. They were clearing
out all the Indians and Monroe County was est. 1815 with a secession from the Creek Indians
in 1814.
We need to look for other records to show Green McKinney, born 1782, for 1800 age 18, 1810 age 28, and 1820 age 38. We believe he likely married around 1810 at about age 28 and taking a wife about age 17.
To put the time period that Green McKinney lived into some context see notes below.
Green McKinney was born around 1782 in Virginia.
Thomas Jefferson (April 13
[O.S. April 2] 1743 – July 4, 1826) was an American
Founding Father, the principal author of the
Declaration of Independence (1776), and the third President of the United States (1801–1809).
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Jefferson
James Madison, Jr. (March 16, 1751 – June 28, 1836) was an American statesman, political theorist, and the
fourth President of the United States (1809–17). He is hailed as the "Father of the Constitution" for being instrumental in the drafting of the
U.S. Constitution and as the key champion and author of the
Bill of Rights.

Possible family of Joel and Matilda, but sadly Matilda is missing in 1850, leaving Joel and the 4 children.
Later we see a Frances at age 14 showing up living with Agnes (Agath) in 1860.

that is what the tax record was on.
Apparently it looks like the land grant that was done in 1854 was for 2 pieces of property totaling 500 acres, or 250 each. Put Link to that picture of the doc. we have framed. See if we can get a copy of the one given to Butch as well.
Also note at least some of this land was passed down to through Simpson McKinney to Asa McKinney and then to Elmer and Alvin McKinney sr. It was mortgaged at some point to pay for Elmer's college education. Lumber was clear cut from the land at some point. When Alvin sr. past, Butch McKinney or Alvin jr. was given a portion from his father and Ron McKinney was given a portion from his Uncle Elmer and his wife Myrtle McKinney, who never had any children.

1860 CENSUS
By 1860 Census Monroe, ALa, Green McKinney the father, who would be age 78 appears to
be past on or somewhere else so he is not there. 1860 shows Agatha (Agnes) McKinney, the mother, Nancy, Green, Simpson, and a younger girl named Francis (likely a granddaughter, the daughter of Matilda & Joel Fore) about 14. The ages seem messed up.

born 1828 married to Mary Ann age 35 with 3 children, Lora age 12, Mary E. age 10 and Asa
G. age 4, born 1876.
1880, Living next door on what appears to be the land grant in Monroe are Green W.
McKinney, born 1824, a widowed man age 48 and his sister Nancy McKinney, born 1820, age
50 who it does not appear married and neither are they showing children but there could have
been some and they had simply moved on and got married or were killed in war.

Note: Green W. McKinney, born Abt.
1824 in Alabama. He married Rebecca Sanders February 21, 1849 in Monroe
